Village to Partner with Solstice on Community Solar

Village of Athens and Solstice Partner to Bring Electricity Bill Savings to Residents

Hello Neighbors,

The Village Board is excited to announce that The Village of Athens is partnering with Solstice to help our community members lower their electricity bills. Solstice helps individuals sign up for the New York Community Solar Program, which allows households to reduce their electricity costs and support green energy without installing solar panels on their home. The program is voluntary and free to join.

The partnership will produce benefits not only regarding energy affordability, but also for the climate. Village Trustee Josh Lipsman says, “for this partnership with Solstice, it’s a win-win-win situation. Residents win, the Village wins and the environment wins.”

Those who sign up for community solar with Solstice will be assigned a portion of a local shared solar farm. As your portion of the solar farm produces clean energy for the utility grid, you will receive reductions on your electricity bills.

Here is what our community members can expect from signing up:

  • No cost to sign up, cancellation is free, and you can do it at any time
  • Guaranteed monthly electricity bill reductions, totaling ~10% annually
  • No installation: you don’t need to install solar panels on your roof!
  • Who’s eligible: renters and homeowners
  • Who’s not eligible: households that have rooftop solar
  • No change to your utility provider

Benefits of our partnership with Solstice:

  • Residents who enroll will receive a $50 VISA gift card courtesy of Solstice.
  • For every resident who enrolls, Solstice will contribute another $50 towards more green initiatives in Athens.

If you are interested in learning more about the program and signing up, please visit solstice.us/athens!

While this is a Village of Athens program, we are making it available to our neighbors as well. Due to anticipated high demand for the community solar program, interested community members are encouraged to take prompt action. Any questions should be directed to Solstice – you can call them at (866) 826-1997 and reference our referral code: ATHENS.

Thank you!

  1. The Central Hudson Budget plan and Soltice are not compatible. If you want to join Soltice you have to drop the CHGE budget plan.
